There is a meaty and dark, slightly earthy side to the 2023 Valeyo. Sixty percent of the grapes come from the Miguel Rey zone of Valtuille de Arriba and 40% from the Valdeobispo lieu-dit from Villafranca del Bierzo, where they planted the vines in 2021 and see that they deliver more elegance and freshness in the wines. Despite being young vines, in 2024, the wine will be 100% from there. It fermented destemmed and matured in used 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months. It's faintly reductive and takes some time to open up in the glass. It has a medium-bodied palate with a fine grain and is textured and mineral. This is the finest vintage for this wine so far. 12,000 bottles produced.
