Pícaro del Águila Clarete 2023

Clarete, which was produced with the same blend as the other years: equal parts Tempranillo and Albillo Mayor and up to 30% of a complex mix of other red and white varieties found in the old vineyards. The full clusters were pressed and the juice left to settle in concrete vats in the very cold underground caves, then it had a slow fermentation in oak barrels, where it spent a total time of around 15 months. It comes in at 14% alcohol but with a low pH of 3.25. It has an intense pink color and is vinous and intense. It's full-bodied and has a very good mid-palate and a long, salty and tasty finish. It's young and undeveloped and should be long lived. Tasting all the vintages side by side, this one showed some similarities with 2013, even though the vintages were almost the opposite: 2023 was and dry and 2013 was rainy and cold. 2023 is more of a light red than a white. 6,324 bottles and 217 magnums produced. It was bottled in December 2024.
