I tasted two vintages of El Rapolao, the oldest of which is the 2022 Rapolao, from a very warm and dry year that provided a more traditional, old style red, with some echoes from a wine from the Rhône. It was produced with the grapes from a plot in Rapolao that he purchased in the lieu-dit of the village of Valtuille de Abajo that has a significant percentage of Bastardo at the top of the vineyard. It fermented with some destemmed grapes and some full clusters in a 2,000-liter oak vat and matured in a 1,000-liter oak foudre. It has some drying tannins and might need more time and/or powerful food. 1,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in 2023.
